Played in elementary school orchestra 1954-1963 (soprano recorder, clarinet), studied piano ca. 1957-1970, composed original music and served as music director in theatres in U.S., UK and France 1970-1980, returned to school 1979 up until PhD in Music, Ethnomusicology Major (UCLA 1994), presently serves as associated director of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings (1998-2016), see www.folkways.si.edu. Also still at times variously and sometimes a composer, performer, artist's manager, teacher, author.
