DEMOCRATIC RAGE HORNPIPE. AKA and see "Democratic Hornpipe (2)," "Leddy's Hornpipe," "One of the Boys," "Reel de Pecheur/Reel du Pêcheur." American (originally), Canadian; Hornpipe. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cole, Miller & Perron, Perlman, Songer): AABB' (Cranford). The tune can be found in disparate regions, from New England to Quebec ("Reel du Pêcheur") and the American Midwest (as "Leddy's Hornpipe"), and, while not hugely popular it has managed to embed itself into different traditions (see Jean-Pierre Joyal's article "Le Processus de Composition Dans La Musique Instrumental du Quebec" in Canadian Journal for Traditional Music [1], 1980, for a discussion of the tune in Québec). Francis O'Neill printed it in his Music of Ireland (1903) under the title "One of the Boys." A Pennsylvania-collected untitled reel in Bayard (1981; No. 100, p. 59) strongly resembles this tune.
