BOWYER'S WHIM. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The melody was first printed in R. Baldwin's London Magazine, or Gentleman's Monthly Intelligencer (1761). In America, it was included in Edward Riley's Flute Melodies, vol. 2 (New York, 1817). It is also perhaps the tune for the country dance "Bower's Whim," the steps to which were printed in several end-of-the-18th century country dance publications in New England and New York.

Printed source: Thompson (Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 2), 1765; No. 28.
