ABEL DRUGGER. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The melody also appears in John Johnson’s 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8 (London, 1758). Abel Drugger was a character in Ben Jonson’s play The Alchemist, a role popularized in the mid-1740’s by David Garrick (1717-1779), the finest British actor of the 18th century.
