BOLD JOHN O'LEARY (Seagan Dana Ua Laogaire). AKA and see "Wink of Her Eye (2) (The)." Irish, Double Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Some similarities to "My Darling Asleep." Perhaps there was an old ballad to this air, the appellation 'bold' often being given to outlaws and highwayman; however, to date I have not found one. The tune earlier appeared in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as "Wink of Her Eye (2) (The)," attributed to 'J. Hand.' O'Neill obtained many tunes from Ryan's collection, but it is not known if this was one of them.
