CRAIG ELACHIE. Scottish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Glen (1891) finds the earliest printing of the tune in biography:Angus Cumming's c. 1780 collection (p. 1). The Clan Grant crest depicts an image of a burning hill representing "Craig Elachie", the rallying point for the Grants. When signal fires were lit upon the summit of Craig Elachie, or "The Rock of Alarm", members of the clan would gather there in order to organize for an attack or defense. Cumming's volume has many references to Clan Grant persons and associations.
