CRYSTAL STREAM WALTZ. Old-Time, Waltz. USA, Missouri. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Beisswenger & McCann): AAB (Phillips): AABB (Christeson). A central Missouri waltz. It was in the repertoire of central Mo. fiddler Pete McMahon (1919-2000), who learned it as a child at dances (liner notes to "Missouri Fiddlin'" MLP 534, 1972). Missouri fiddler and scholar Howard Marshall plays a version that he learned from Virgil Smith, who had himself learned it from fiddler Vee Latty (1910-1956, Fulton, Callaway County, Mo.) in the 1920s. The waltz is attributed to Latty.

Source for notated version: Virgil Smith (Mo.) [Christeson]; Stuart Williams [Phillips]; Dean Johnston (1919-2007, Lamar, Barton County, Mo.), learned from Nowlin Boone (northern Mo.) [Beisswenger & McCann].
