FERTISH HILL, THE. Scottish, Jig. E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Borders fiddler-composer biography:John Pringle (c. 1770-c. 1807), titled after a hill near Hawick, Roburghshire, in his home area. There was a tryst, or cattle-market at Hawick in the 18th century, held in October, "upon both sides of the high road leading from the top of Hawick-Loan to Burnflat, and along the north side of Fertish Hill."
