GAMESTERS AND LAWYERS (ARE JUGGLERS ALIKE), THE. AKA and see "When once I lay with another man's wife," "King's Delight (The)." English, Air (6/8 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The air appears under this title (also the first line of the song) as Air 24 in John Gay's Beggar's Opera of 1729, set to the tune of "When once I lay with another man's wife." It is also in John Playford's Musick's Handmaid of 1678. Lawyers apparently were held in similar esteem in Gay's time as now-days.
