GLENTROMIE. Scottish, Strathspey. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Athole, Marshall): AABB' (Kerr). Composed by William Marshall (1748–1833). Glen Tromie was the site of the hunting lodge of Colonel George Gordon, the illegitimate child of Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon (Marshall's employer) and a servant girl by the name of Bathia Largue. Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999), says that despite the illegitimacy (which took place before her marriage), Jane Maxwell, the Duke's wife, was very fond of George.
