GREEN ISLAND, THE (An Oilean Glas). AKA - "Old Hornpipe (The)." Irish, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune appears under the title "The Old Hornpipe" in an anonymous musician's music manuscript collection dated 1862, probably of Northern U.S. origin, and in the music manuscript collection of John M. Aldinger from the same era. Given this, it is likely that the source for both the musician and O'Neill was one of Boston publisher Elias Howe's popular music publications. Therefore, the provenance may not be 'Irish'.
