HOGMANAY [2], THE. Scottish, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. Composed by Angus accordionist and Scottish dance band leader Andrew Rankine (1930–1985). Rankine began his performing career by forming a band in 1949 in the village of Menstrie, Clackmannanshire. He went on to become on of the greatest of Scottish dance band leaders who was "at the forefront in the development of a new approach to Country Dance Music which gathered momentum in the early 1950s. He introduced new harmonies and added an extra dimension by making greater use of the second accordion" (Iain MacPhail).
