Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Researcher Conor Ward has found an early version of the polka under the title "Black Horse Polka (The)" in the McBrien-Rogers music manuscript collection (Rossan, Aughavas, Co. Leitrim) dating to c. 1895-1905.
