KILCHATTAN WEDDING, THE (Calum Figheadair). AKA - "Calum Fidhdair." Scottish, Reel (whole and cut time). D Minor (Fraser, Laybourn, Stewart-Robertson): A Dorian (Aird). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD (Aird): AABB'CCD. The melody appears in the 1816 collection of Captain Simon Fraser (1773-1852), of Inverness-shire, in the Highlands near Loch Ness. In his publication Fraser noted the tune was "sung with inimitable humour by Alexander Fraser, Esq. of Culduthel and the editor's grandfather." The reel appeared earlier in Glasgow musician and music publisher James Aird's Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 5 (1801) as "Calum Fidhdair", with the note that it was "An old reel."
