LAMENT FOR MR. RAMSAY OF BARNTON. Scottish, Slow Air (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fkddle). AAB. Composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831), perhaps in memory of Mr. George Ramsay of Barnton, Midlothian, who died in 1810. George was the son of a successful Edinburgh banker (and director of the Royal Bank of Scotland), and was known for his hunting and coaching exploits. He married, in 1791, Miss Jean Hamilton of Wishaw (1769-1841), and they resided at the family manor, Gogor House (called "the most baronial of Edinburgh's late 16th and early 17th century mansions").
