LEAGUE AND SLASHER [1]. AKA and see "Atholl Braes," "Drinking Reel (The)," "Drunken Tailor (The)," "Gallagher's Best," "Lagan Slashers (1)," "Pigeon on the Pier (2)," "Pigeon on the Gate (1) (The)," "Reidy's Reel," "Scotch Braes (The)," "Wandering Tinker (The)." Irish, Reel. E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title is a corruption of the Irish name for the reel, "Lagan Slashers," that can be found, for example, in a few 19th century musicians' manuscripts from County Leitrim and County Longford. The melody is best-known in moderna times as "Pigeon on the Gate (1) (The)." See Bayard's note for "Annotation:Paddy on the Turnpike."
