LONG NOTE, THE. Irish, Slide (12/8 time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BC. A three-part slide or single-jig vesion of the reel "Jenny's Welcome to Charlie." It was the theme tune of an influential Monday night RTÉ program, also called "The Long Note," in the 1970's. This, together with recordings by button accordionist Tony MacMahon and fiddler Paddy Glackin, helped popularize the tune in the session repertoire.
