MARINGOUINS ONT TOUT MANGÉ MA BELLE, LES (The Mosquitoes Ate Up My Sweetheart). Cajun, Waltz. USA, Louisiana. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB(Vocal)AABBAA(Vocal)AABBAABB. The word maringouin comes from the South American Indian name for mosquito, states Raymond Francois (1990), although moustique is also used in some parts of Louisiana. The lyric begins:

Les maringouins ont tout mangé ma belle,
Ils n'ont laissé que les gros orteils.
C'est pour faire des bouchons de liège,
C'est pour boucher mes demi-bouteilles.

Mosquitoes have eat up my darling,
They only left the big toes,
This is to make corks,
It's to seal my half full bottles.
