MARQUIS OF GRANBY'S RANT, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This particular tune honoring Granby (for whom see "Annotation:Marquis of Granby (The)"). appears unique to London pubisher Charles and Samuel Thompson's 1765 country dance collection. There are similarities in the first strain to the first strain of later American tunes "Portsmouth Hornpipe (2)" and "Mathewson's Hornpipe."
