MISS JOAN MACDONALD [1]. Canadian, Strathspey. Canada, Cape Breton. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Cape Breton fiddler and composer Biography:Dan R. MacDonald (1911-1976). Joan MacDonald Boes (d. 1998) was a pianist and a member, along with Dan R. MacDonald, of the Detroit-based group The Five MacDonald Fiddlers (Allen, Bernie, Hugh, Johnnie, Archie and Dan MacDonald). Allen was Joan's brother. She was born in Foot Cape, Inverness County, but moved to Detroit, Michigan, as a young woman, some say to study jazz piano. See her most famous composition, the strathspey "Sweetness of Mary (The)."
