MISS ROBERTSON OF CLAVERSTON’S JIGG. Scottish, Jig. A Major. Standard tuning. AABB. The melody appears in Robert Petrie’s Fourth Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jiggs and Country Dances (1805), attributed to Charles Stewart. Stewart also composed a reel, “Miss Robertson (2),” possibly for the same person. According to David Baptie (Musical Scotland, 1894), Stewart was born around 1770, and was a composer and compiler of dance music. He published two of his own collections of Scottish dance tunes, wherein he describes himself as "musician to the late Mr. Strange." Baptie says his compositions are "of great and undoubted merit."
