MISS STEWART OF FOSS' REEL. Scottish, Reel (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by fiddler-composer biography:Duncan McKercher, the "Dunkeld Paganini." Speculatively, McKercher's 'Miss Stewart of Foss' may have been Margaret (1809-1836), daughter of Joseph Stewart Menzies, Esq. of Foss, Perthshire, who, in Edinburgh in 1833 married the Rev. A.R. Irvine, minister of of Blair Atholl 1843-1867. McKercher also composed "Mr. Alexander Irvine's Strathspey" and thus may have composed a tune for each of the couple. Margaret died young, at age 26. The couple had one daughter.
