MRS. FARRELL. Irish, Planxty (6/8 time). G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). O'Sullivan (1958) notes that Carolan left Squire Reynolds (where he had composed his first song) and "Called at O'Farrell's in the County of Longford and composed for his daughter" (quoted from Daniel Early). O'Sullivan thinks this air may have been composed for the mother, the one to the daughter having been lost (although three quatrains of words survive in manuscripts).
