NEW ALLEMAND [1], THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. One of several different period "New Allemands." This particular tune was also entered into the 1780-1804 music manuscript collection of fife player John Fife as "The New Allimand, Quick Step" indicating his use of it as a march. Fife was perhaps from Perthshire, although there are references to battles in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean seas, so he was also perhaps aboard ship.
