NEW BRIG OF GLASGOW, THE. AKA and see "Cumberland Reel," "Miss Nancy Gibson." Scottish, Strathspey. G Minor. Standard tuning. AB (Cole): AAB (Howe): AA'B (Gatherer). An anonymous tune commemorating the opening of a new bridge in Glasgow which was completed in 1768. Glen (1891) finds the earliest printing of this tune in Joshua Campbell's A Collection of the Newest Reels and Minuets (1778, p. 24). Edinburgh publishers Gow and Shepherd printed the tune under the title "The Cumberland Reel, or Miss Nancy Gibson" as a single sheet issued around 1800, finds Nigel Gatherer.
