NEW PIEROT. AKA - "New Pero." English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBC, AABBCCDD. The melody was published in several mid-18th century country dance collections, including John Walsh's Twenty Four Country Dances for the Year 1732 (London, 1732, p. 13), The Third Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (London, 1735) and his Caledonian Country Dances [1] (London, c. 1745, p. 46), Wright's Compleat Collection of celebrated country Dances (1740, p. 14), and Robert Bremner's The Delightful Pocket Companion for the German Flute (London, 1763). A song in Robert Drury's opera The Rival Milliners, or the Humours of Covent Garden, printed in 1737, also uses "New Pierot" as the indicated tune for Air 13. London musician Thomas Hammersley entered into his c. 1790 music copybook.
