NEW WILD MORRIS. English, Jig (12/8 time). England, North-West. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Walsh's third collection of Lancashire tunes (The Third Book of the Most Celebrated Jiggs, Lancashire Hornpipes, Scotch and Highland Lilts, Northern Frisks, Morris's and Cheshire Rounds, with Hornpipes the Bagpipe Manner) published around the year 1730 (22v-3). There are two other melodies in the Walsh volume with 'morris' in their title, "Carpenter's Morris" and "Running Morris (The)." He also printed "Welsh Morris (The)" in his third volume of country dances (1735, p. 103).
