NORTHUMBRIAN GATHERING. English, March (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'CDE. Composed by Northumbrian smallpiper Billy Pigg. The title refers to the Northumbrian Gathering of smallpipe musicians, first organized by Bill Charlton (see Pigg's tune "Bill Charlton's Fancy"). Charlton himself honored Pigg by saying, "His playing, to me, seemed to typify the wild hills and moorland."
