RABBIT IN THE PEA PATCH [2]. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Missouri. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’CCDD’. Source Bob Holt (1919-2002, Ava, Missouri) learned this tune from the banjo playing of his Uncle Noah, who had it from Corbin Potter of McClurg, Missouri, a member of a musical family. According to Holt, the Potter who was associated with the tune was killed in 1922, but a younger brother named Earl knew parts of it, and Holt cobbled this version together. Drew Beisswenger (2008) remarks that Holt’s version is different than “Rabbit in the Pea Patch (1),” although the coarse (low) strain retains similarities.
