VAN DIEMAN'S LAND. AKA and see “Convict of Van Diemen’s Land,” "Gallant Poachers (The)." Irish, Air (6/8 time). Ireland, County Donegal. D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The title comes from the refrain of the song known as "The Gallant Poachers;" it has become as common a title for the tune as the original. Petrie identifies it as a “Donegal melody.”

Source for notated version: “From William Allingham” [Stanford/Petrie]. Caoimhin Mac Aoidh (1994) identifies the source as William Allington, of Donegal, who contributed several airs to the Petrie collection.
