WHISTLING REUBEN. Old Time. Perhaps "Whistling Rufus." The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. The Leadville, Colorado, newspaper Herald Democrat, for November 11, 1909, mentions that "Whistling Reuben will be played at the Old Time ball ut Armory hall."
