ALEXANDER ARTHUR DUFF ESQ. YOUNGER OF MUIRTOWN'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by William Morrison (c. 1770-1825). It was one of a number of compositions for the Duff family of Muirtown. See note for "annotation:Mr. H.R. Duff's Favorite" for more. Alexander Arthur was born on August 31, 1799. In 1820 he was appointed Ensign in the 1st Royal Scots and was soon posted with his regiment to India. He died of fever the next year, age 21, at Negapatam where a monument was erected to his memory either "by his brother officers" or "by his brother".
