RACCOON ON A RAIL. AKA and see "Possum on a Rail." American, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was recorded by the Hometown Boys, a group made up of an ad hoc conglomeration of North Georgia musicians who combined and re-combined in different configurations to record. The Hometown Boys included Skillet Licker regulars Gid Tanner on banjo and Riley Puckett on guitar, with Bill Helms on fiddle. A version of the tune had been recorded a year earlier by the Mississippi Possum Hunters as "Possum on a Rail." Both tunes are based on a I-IV-I-V-I chord progression, and are similar to "Bile them Cabbage Down" and "Roscoe."
