SAIL AWAY LADIES [3]. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Oklahoma. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. This version of "Sail away Ladies" is from the Collins family of Pottawatomie County, central Oklahoma, which included fiddlers W.S. Collins, Max Collins, Earl Collins, Uncle Elsie, Willie Collins and perhaps others. The Collins family was originally from Douglas, Ozark and Howell Counties in the Missouri Ozarks, and their family repertoire reflects the music of that region. The usual "Sail away Ladies" tune (see "Sail away Ladies (1)" and "Sail away Ladies (2)") is traceable, but distanced in W.S. Collins' version. While there are decided structural and rhythmic similarities, and the melodic contour is very similar, the melody itself is less similar.
