SÉAMUS CONNOLLY’S (REEL). AKA and see “Aggie Whyte's Reel (2),” “New Found Out (1) (The),” “Satin Slipper (2) (The).” Irish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB. Séamus Connolly, one of the most renowned fiddlers now alive, won All-Ireland championships eleven times, which may be a record. There is a story (perhaps even true!) that a young Séamus, aged 17, entered the junior level competition one year and won handily. The judges of the juniors were so impressed that they had him return, and since CCE competitions were at that time conducted behind a screen so as not to prejudice the judges, Séamus entered the senior competition. He won that too. Soon after the rules were amended to preclude entry in more than one age division.
