The influential group Planxty (supplemented by Noel Hill on concertina and Tony Linnane on fiddle) recorded "Woman I never Forgot" in 1980, with "Canny's" as an alternate title, referring to East Clare fiddler Paddy Canny. Canny and playing partner fiddler P.J. Hayes recorded the reel for Dublin Records in 1959 on an album called "All-Ireland Champions" (since re-released on other labels), where it was called "Lafferty's" and "Glen of Aherlow." The tune is often nowadays known as “Lafferty's” not only from Canny and Hayes' recording, but from fiddler Kevin Burke’s several recordings of it. The reel, however, was originally composed by Nenagh, County Tipperary, fiddler Sean Ryan (1919-1985) as “Glen of Aherlow (2) (The).” Ryan won the Senior All Ireland fiddle competition two years in succession, in 1956 and 1956.
