Paddy Tunney gives a different melody for thinning, which he describes as an "ever-popular confirmation of belief in the rectitude of the Old Faith" (The Stone Fiddle, pp. 43-4); it is of similar meter, however, which is to say, Tunney's words can be sung to O'Neill's melody.
