BIG CAPTAIN OF CARTLEHAUGH, THE. Scottish, Highland Schottische or Strathspey. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by the great Scots fiddler-composer biography:J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927). Cartlehaugh is in Old Deer, Aberdeenshire. It is the birthplace in 1886 of Scots fiddler James F. Dickie, whose style was influenced by Skinner. Somewhere between the manuscript submitted to music editor Gavin Greig and the publication of Skinner's Harp and Claymore (1904) the gentleman of the title had received a promotion, for the Skinner's manuscript title was "Big Sergenat of Cartlehaugh."
