COLEBURN, THE. Scottish, Slow Air (4/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. The melody was composed by fiddler William Macpherson (1919–1974) of Elgin. The Coleburn or 'hazel'burn is a small stream in Morayshire, remarks Neil (1991). However, it seems the tune was composed in honor of a Scottish distillery of single malt spirits that was located in Speyside. The distillery was founded in 1896 by John Robertson & Sons, but is now defunct.
