GIGUE À FRIDOLIN. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Soucy researcher Jean Duval explains the title refers to a character named Fridolin, created by Gratien Gélinas (-1999) in the fall of 1937 for a CKAC radio show called "Le Carorousel de la gaiété," a type of soap opera. After a few months the Fridolinades went on tour, directed by Fred Barry, performing the soap opera live in theaters.
