GIGUE À FRIDOLIN. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Soucy researcher Jean Duval explains the title refers to a character named Fridolin, created by Gratien Gélinas (1909-1999) in the fall of 1937 for a CKAC and Radio-Canada radio show called "Le Carorousel de la gaiété" or "Train de plaisir", a type of soap opera [1]. Fridolin became his trademark character, and after a few months the Fridolinades went on tour, directed by Fred Barry, performing the soap opera live in theaters. It became an annual review produced by Gélinas and his team between 1938 and 1946 (and later 1956) at the Monument National, in Montreal.
