MAID AT THE WELL (An og-bean air an tobair). AKA and see "Arthur McBride (1)," "Black Stripper (The)," "Blackthorn Stick (5) (The)," "Castle Street Jig," "Hawk from Dundalk (The)," "Jig of Clonmore (The)," "Kilkenny Jig (2) (The)," "Maide Draighin (An)," "Maids of Glenroe (The)," "Milkmaid (2) (The)," "Mullagh Jig (The)," "Pat Curtins Jig," "Silver Tip (2) (The)." Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AABB' (O'Neill/1915). The tune was dictated by Francis O'Neill, although he said he did not recall where he had learned it [1]. A version of the tune was entered as an untitled jig in Book 3 of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894), and County Cork cleric and uilleann piper biography:James Goodman entered a variant as "Black Stripper (The)" in his large mid-19th century music manuscript collection.
