Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AABB' (O'Neill/1915). The tune was dictated by Francis O'Neill, although he said he did not recall where he had learned it [1]. A version of the tune was entered as an untitled jig in Book 3 of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894), and County Cork cleric and uilleann piper biography:James Goodman entered a variant as "Black Stripper (The)" in his large mid-19th century music manuscript collection. Collector George Petrie also has a version as an untitled tune (see Stanford/Petrie, 1905, No. 971). O'Neill also printed a variant in his Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody (1922) under the title "Milkmaid (2) (The)." See also the related "Milkmaid (5) (The)" and "Blackthorn Stick (The)."
