MISS DUNBAR OF NORTHFIELD'S HORNPIPE. Scottish, Triple Hornpipe (3/2 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Miss Dunbar of Northfield's Hornpipe" was composed by biography:William Christie (1778-1849), a dancing master, postman, song collector and fiddler-composer of Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire. He appended the note "Now Mrs. McIntosh of Raigmore." "Miss Dunbar" was Margaret Dunbar, daughter ofSir Archibald Dunbar, 6th Bt of Northfield and Helen Cumming-Gordon (for whom he also composed pieces). She marriedLachlan Mackintosh (d. 1845), whose family seat of Raigmore was a 19th century mansion house in Inverness. Macintosh returned from Calcutta in 1808 and became a prominent member of Inverness society. He fund-raised extensively for the Royal Academy and Northern Infirmary. The couple's son was Aeneas William Mackintosh, an MP for Inverness Burgh between 1868 and 1874.
