MISS DUNBAR OF NORTHFIELD'S HORNPIPE. Scottish, Triple Hornpipe (3/2 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Miss Dunbar of Northfield's Hornpipe" was composed by biography:William Christie (1778-1849), a dancing master, postman, song collector and fiddler-composer of Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire. He appended to the tune the note "Now Mrs. McIntosh of Raigmore." "Miss Dunbar" was Margaret Dunbar, daughter of Sir Archibald Dunbar, 6th Bt of Northfield and Helen Cumming-Gordon (for whom he also composed pieces). She married Lachlan Mackintosh (d. 1845), whose family seat of Raigmore was a 19th century mansion house in Inverness. Macintosh returned from Calcutta in 1808 and became a prominent member of Inverness society. He fund-raised extensively for the Royal Academy and Northern Infirmary. The couple's son was Aeneas William Mackintosh, an MP for Inverness Burgh between 1868 and 1874.
