PÈTEUSE, LA. AKA - "The Woman who Farts". French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'C. The title translates as 'the farting woman' or 'the woman who farts', and is used to describe several tunes whose feature is a pizzicato note or series of pizzicato notes (a plucked string on the violin), evocative of a demure escape of gas. This "La Pèteuse" tune was in the repertory of Gaspésie fiddler Édouard Richard (1934-2019). See also "Saut du Lapin (2)" which also features a plucked note (evocative of a rabbit hopping), which has also been called "La Pèteuse."
