"Mr. John Brown" was composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer and dancing master wikipedia:James_Scott_Skinner (1843-1927). wikipedia:John_Brown_(servant) (1826-1883), originally from Crathie, Aberdeenshire, was an employee of the royal family at Balmoral, the Highland retreat of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He became a favorite of Victoria, and, despite the difference in their stations, a friend and confidant.
