Researcher Jean Duval remarks on the Celtic-sounding nature of this Quebec reel, set in the mixolydian mode and asymmetrical, with an additional beat at the end of each part. In J.A. Boucher's 1927 unprinted precursor to his 1933 collection the tune is called "Danse de Princeville", the name of a municipality in the Bois-Francs region (between Montreal and Quebec City), and it was perhaps learned or collected there.
