REEL DU RÊVE. French-Canadian, Reel (2/4 time). G Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Researcher Jean Duval remarks on the Celtic-sounding nature of this Quebec reel, set in the mixolydian mode with an asymmetrical structure. Duval notes that the two sections consist of two phrases, one of ten beats and the other of seven beats. In J.A. Boucher's 1927 unprinted precursor to his 1933 collection the tune is called "Danse de Princeville", the name of a municipality in the Bois-Francs region (between Montreal and Quebec City), and it was perhaps learned or collected there.
