AB (Gow, Surenne): AAB (Athole): AABB' (Kerr). Attributed to “D.D.” (Daniel Dow) by Gow in the 4th Collection. The name Forbes is derived from the Gaelic term forb-ais, meaning ‘at the land’. The clan’s original holdings were in Aberdeenshire, on the banks of the river Don. See also French-Canadian versions recorded by Joseph Allard under titles "Reel de Napoléon (1)," "Reel du voyageur (1)," and "Reel ouverture du bal," and J.A. Boucher's distanced adaptation "Zwyska."
